OCC Birthday Challenge

Happy Labor Day to you all! It was in fact really Labor Day for me 25 years ago, as today is my youngest son's birthday. He is celebrating in the beautiful Azores! (sounds romantic doesn't it, but it's really not, he is on his was to Afghanistan!)....He's probably sound asleep with his head back, snoring on the airplane he is in ;>)
Today's card is for the OCC Birthday challenge this week. It is very much like one that Dawn Easton posted on Splitcoast the first part of June. In fact, it was her card that sent me on a mission to find this particular set. Thanks so much for all your inspiration Dawn.
Now for the recipe: Cardstock (all SU) Confetti White, Purely Pomegranate, Certainly Celery, Tempting Turquoise. Pattern paper is from DCWV. Stamps-Hero Arts. Accessories- Circle Scallop Nestibilities-Spellbinders, Treading Water Border Punch-Fiskars, Ribbon-Big Lots!, Fabric Paint-JoAnns. Sentiment is lifted with dimensionals. (Did I forget anything?)

Exodus 33:14

Another scripture card for today. I enjoy doing these. I don't remember if I've used this particular scripture stamp recently, but it is always a good thought to keep in front of us.

Cardbase and flourishes are Brilliant Blue from Stampin' Up! The flourishes are cut using my Cuttlebug (Provo Craft) and Quik Kut dies. The sunflowers are stamped and cut from a Stampendous picture frame stamp that I have had for years. They are colored with Bic Markers and accented with a gold glitter pen (I'm not sure if this really shows in this picture.) I used the Ticket Corner punch on the yellow cardstock, then added Dew Drops from Robin's Nest.
I'm anxious for a nice quiet weekend. I'm sure we will just sit around and vegetate.......it's been way too exciting around here lately!

Mojo Monday # 50

Well, I think I FINALLY got it done. I think I am happy with how it turned out.....I will have to look at it for a while. ;>). This is my first time working with the Mojo Monday Challenge from Poetic Artistry. Julee does awesome work! She has such an eye for color and texture.

I just found out a bit ago that I get to babysit a couple of g-kids for the night. My son is taking his wife on a "date" before he is deployed for 4 months. They have spent alot of time apart, but he has always been in the states. It is a little more tough this time.



I used Wild Wasabi cardstock for the base, then layered with some fun birthday paper from the DCWV 12x12 Summer Stack. The largest scallop and largest layer of the rectangle are More Mustard cardstock. Layered on each, as well as on the cardbase is Textured Navy from Bazill. The smallest layers are Confetti White. The stamps that I used are both from Stampin' Up! Warm Words for the sentiment and the gift is from the Button Bear set. Does anyone remember that one. Button Bear is almost as old as Smokey!

Can't Seem To Get It Going Again....

I just can't seem to get going again. I think maybe life is getting to me lately. With my husband's emergency last week and our son being deployed soon, my mind is just not working . I have gone in to my craft room several times, and just come up blank. I am working on the Mojo Monday 50 challenge and it is taking me forever! Thankfully, I still have a few days.

We had a going away BBQ for our son Jim this last weekend. Also during that time we surprised my husband with a 50th Birthday party. Jim didn't want to miss the opportunity to give his Dad a bad time on his 50th Birthday, and since he will be overseas when Dad turns that ripe old age, we thru the party early. He was really surprised! We did have to rethink it a bit since his heart attack earlier in the week. If it had been more serious, we would not have done this, I assure you. Anyway, in this post you will see two cards that my sisters made for him, they are sooo cute!

Happy Harvest

Happy Tuesday! Hubby went to work for a half day today.....I'm sure I will be calling him ALOT! This is the first day he has gone anywhere alone since last week. He is probably thankful for the time....I just worry. I did manage to get a card worked on yesterday. I need to soak at the Splitcoast Stampers site for a while to get my creative juices going again, I guess. Below is the card I made.


The cardbase is Pumkin Pie, layered with Purely Pomegranite and Groovy Guava. I used the Swiss Dots EF and my Cuttlebug for texture. The stamp set is "Happy Harvest". It is retired from Stampin' Up! many years ago. I still love it for fall though. There is also an adorable scarecrow with this set that I am sure I will be using for a card soon. ;>) The ribbon and the brads are from Joann's.

OH MY-WHAT A WEEK!

Good Monday to everyone. I apologize for being invisible for the past several days. We had a bit of a family emergency. Last time I posted, we were planning on attending the "Chicago" concert at the fair.......well, about 11 a.m. that morning my phone rang. It was one the the doctors that my husband, who is a contractor is building a house for. He was having chest pain, so they called the paramedics and sent him to the hospital. By the time that I arrived (we live about 30 miles from where he was working), they already had him in surgery and were doing a heart catherization. He spent a day and a half in the Coronary Care Unit and then was moved to another room, where he stayed another day before they released him. Needless to say, my creative juices dried up for several days! He is home now, the doc says he did everything right as far as what to do when having chest pain. I believe it was a total God thing......he was only 3 blocks from a really good hospital that does alot of heart stuff, there was a doctor there with him and they got him taken care of within a half an hour. So the damage to his heart is minimal. They have sent him home with some medication, instructions to get more exercise and lose a few pounds. We have been working on that anyway. This will slow him down a bit though, for which I am thankful. Well, on to the card:
I made this card for my sister's birthday, which is today! Happy day Terri! I'm glad I had it done before all the excitement hit. The cardbase is Confetti White, the Sky Blue layer was run thru my Cuttlebug, using my Textile EF. I used the Treading Water Edger from Fiskars for the bottom scallop work. For the image I used a retired Stampin' Up! set, "Beautiful Butterflies". The sentiment and flower are layered with Lovely Lilac. Ribbon is Lovely Lilac Organdy ribbon from Stampin' Up! several years ago.

Saturday Sketch Challenge-Our Creative Corner

Happy Day! I am SOOO excited today! My husband is taking off work a few hours early today so that we can go to the State Fair. This is always a great time for us, but the exciting thing about today is that "Chicago" will be in concert this evening and we are going!!!! I have loved their music since I was very young. This is the only way I could ever get to see them , I'm sure.

Well, on to today's card. This is for this week's OCC challenge, I sure enjoy doing these. The ladies over at Our Creative Corner are so talented and sweet.

The cardbase is Lavender Lace, the scalloped panel and bottom circle layer are Pale Plum, both from Stampin' Up! The butterfly is stamped with Perfect Plum on Confetti White cardstock. It is from a clear set by Inkadinkado. Accessories include: Treading Water Border Punch-Fiskars, Circle Punch-Marvy, Small Scalloped Circle Nestie-Spellbinders, Mat Pack and Piercing Tool. The detail on the Butterflies is done with a glitter pen, the circles are mounted with dimensionals. Ribbon-Garden Green Organdy from SU.
